Visitors to the de Young Museum the weekend of October 10-12, 2008, will get an eyeful of all manner of Maori art. Maori are the native people of New Zealand and they call their land "Aotearoa, the land of the long white cloud."
Visitors to the de Young can purchase "small treasures" and contemporary artworks from New Zealand, marvel at Maori storytelling through artist demos, and take in displays of weaving and traditional Maori cloaks. Gallery talks will add depth to the museum experience, while art activities will allow visitors to exercise their individual artistry by crafting small treasures they can call their own. Except where noted, all events take place in the de Young's free zone.
