Bruce Licher was an early influence on my musical tastes steering me from Industrial Post-Punk music to Surf and Exotica and thrift shop records. More recently he created some great instrumental "Desert Surf" music with his band Scenic

He is having a major exhibit at a Los Angeles gallery:

Bruce Licher is the legendary DIY artist, musician, and letterpress guru singlehandedly responsible, among other things, for inventing those hand-printed chipboard CD covers you may have seen. The celebration of Licher's exhibition is on Saturday, January 26, 2008, from 7:00 to 10:00 p.m., featuring the usual great organic food prepared with the help of our master vegan chef, John Saslow. The exhibit is up until March 1, 2008, and will feature Licher's letterpress design and printing, including his CD/record packaging of CDs/records by R.E.M., Stereolab, Party Boys (featuring L.A. artist Marnie Weber) and Harold Budd, as well as his own groups Savage Republic and Scenic. It will also include other goodies, such as fine art prints, souvenir stamp booklets, envelopes, postcards, desert landscape photography, a limited edition DVD release of his four short experimental films (released on the Sordide Sentimentale record label) and a limited-edition (300) CDr package of his three ambient guitar pieces, recorded in 1997 under the name Exploratorium.
