Title: Tahitian dancers in Montreal, Huge Pirate party in
SF
LES GRANDS BALLETS DE TAHITI
Les Grands Ballets de Tahiti brings together traditional elements
of percussion and song with a more contemporary approach to
choreography and stage direction.
Place des Arts in Montreal on March 10 and 11, and at the Grand
Théâtre de Québec in Quebec City on March 12.
Remember the good old days when a night on the town might have
meant taking in a Polynesian floorshow at a local exotic nightspot?
Grass skirts, drums, dancing? the whole bit? If you too pine for a
form of entertainment that has not graced our city since the long gone
heyday of Polynesian Pop Culture, here's a chance to experience
something more authentic (and on a much larger scale) than anything
any local Tiki joint could have ever slapped together on a Saturday
night...
Les Grands Ballets de Tahiti - some 30 dancers, musicians and
vocalists - are making their way over to our side of the big lagoon
carrying steamer trunks filled with colourful costumes and exotic
accessories. Frequent winners at dance festivals in their homeland,
the troupe has performed their brand of Tahitian dance before crowds
in Polynesia, Europe, the Orient, and the U.S.
